asvn (available from 1.6 and older) is the command line tool for impor/export objects from Access.

Main commands:
  asvn [-general options] h[elp]|-? | i[import] | e[xport]
Parameters for Import
  [-options] databaseFile [file1 file2 ...|@responseFile]
Parameters for Export
  databaseFile exportFolder [*.*|objectname1 [objectname2 ...]|@resposeFile]

General options
-v                  Verbose: verbose output to stdout
-w                  Wait: wait to any keystroke before end the program. Useful
for interactive mode or for debugging
h help -?          Show this message and exit.
i import           Import file(s) to the database.
e export           Export from the database to file(s).
-allowdatalost     For table objects. If the target table has data, asvn
raises an exception if this options is not specified
-overwritedatabase For database objects. If specified and target database
exists it is overwrited with a new empty one
databasefile       Access database (mdb or adp file format) where Import or
                     from Export files
fileN              File name (absolute or relative path) to import to. Can
                     specify multiple files.
Files must follow the naming convention:
If specify files, response file is not allowed. If there
isn't objectName neither @responsefil, objectnames will
                     be readed from stdin.
@responsefile      When import, file containing list of files to import to.
                                  Each line: [-options] filePath
When export, file containing list of access object.
                                  Each line: AccessObject
                     names to export to.
For each file to import, you can specify options
applicable for the corresponding object type. See Options
                     section above
If specified, list of files / objectnames are not allowed
exportFolder       Folder where write the Access objects to. If the folder
do not exist, asvn creates it.

objectnameN        List of object to export to. Objects listed must follow
the naming convention: type.objectName. You can use
                     wildcards. So:
                      - frm.* will export all the forms
                      - *.*   will export all the objects.
                      - *.C*  will export all the objects that begins with C
If there isn't objectName neither @responsefile,
objectnames will be readed from stdin

Files and objects with spaces must be quoted. For example: "frm.Order Details"
For usage examples visit

Files and objects with spaces must be quoted. For example: "frm.Order Details" (not aplicable for response files).

Wildcards in files:

  • Only * is supported, but you can use as many * as you want.
  • You can specify all the modules: modules\*
  • Or all objects that begin with C: *\c*

Wildcards in objects:

  1. Only * is supported, but you can use as many * as you want.
  2. If you need distinguish among different objects types, you should use the "subextension" for that object type. For tables, tlb; for módules, bas, etc.

For batch processing, the exit codes are:

  • 0: no errors
  • 1: error parsing the command line arguments
  • 2: error while importing/exporting objects
